New paper on optimising oil palm landscapes for biodiversity in Nature Sustainability

Dave and Owen contributed to a paper out this week in Nature Sustainability, investigating strategies for optimising biodiversity outcomes in tropical landscapes while sustaining oil palm yields. This is a major output from our LOMBOK project in Sabah, Malaysia as part of NERC’s Human Modified Tropical Forests programme.

Massive congratulations to Jamal who passed his (online from Indonesia) DPhil viva today. Thanks to Ed Turner (Cambridge) and Andy Hector for examining. As some of us learned for the first time today, Jamal also completed an MBA alongside his DPhil. Very impressive!

Congratulations to Jinlin and Jamal who submitted their DPhil theses two days apart this month! Jamal returns to his native Indonesia to take up a lectureship at Universitas Gadjah Mada. Jinlin will start a postdoc with Owen in Oxford in January.
